How to Become a Certified Cisco Security Professional (CCSP)

Certified Cisco Security Professional (CCSP) is designed by Cisco institution,has proven proficiency in the management and security of network infrastructures in reducing costs, protecting productivity, and diminishing threats. Emphasis is put on VPNs, perimeter security, and preventing intrusion. Students will learn to utilize these technologies to design a secure, integrated network.

The Curriculum of CCSP is as following:

Unlike many of the other Cisco certifications, the CCSP certification does not require specific coursework to be completed. Instead, Cisco recommends courses which will assist in passing the required exams. In addition Cisco training videos and online courses are available to assist in preparing for the exams.

*Securing Networks with Cisco Routers and Switches (SNRS)

*Securing Networks with ASA Foundation (SNAF)

*Implementing Cisco Intrusion Prevention System (IPS)

 *Implementing Cisco NAC Appliance (CANAC) OR Implementing Cisco Security Monitoring, Analysis and Response System (MARS) OR Securing Networks with ASA Advanced (SNAA) Exams

The CCSP has three required exams as well as two elective exams. Required Exams:

642-504 SNRS (Securing Networks with Cisco Routers and Switches)

642-524 SNAF (Securing Networks with ASA Foundation)

642-533 IPS (Implementing Cisco Intrusion Prevention Systems)

Elective Exams: 642-591 CANAC (Implementing Cisco NAC Appliance), 642-545 MARS (Implementing Cisco Security Monitoring, Analysis and Response System), OR 642-515 SNAA (Securing Networks with ASA Advanced)

Required Exam Descriptions:

The Securing Networks with Cisco Routers and Switches exam assesses the students understanding and capability in using Cisco routers and switches to secure networks. The Securing Networks with ASA Fundamentals exam assesses the students understanding and capability in describing, configuring, and managing the Cisco ASA Security Appliance product. The IPS Implementing Cisco Intrusion Prevention System assesses the students ability to implement the Cisco IPS product.

Elective Exam Descriptions: The Securing Networks with ASA Advanced assess the students understanding and capability in describing, configuring, and managing the Cisco ASA Security Appliance product. The Implementing Cisco Security Monitoring, Analysis and Response System exam assess the students understanding of the Cisco Security Monitoring, Analysis and Response System. The CANAC Implementing Cisco NAC Appliance exam assesses the students understanding of the Cisco NAC Appliance solution.

Recertification: CCSP certificates are valid for three years. Recertification is obtained by passing any professional level curriculum 642 exam, or any written CCIE/CCDE exam before the certificate expiration date.
